Company Compare: Scored Vendor and Partner Comparisons grounded in evidence

A weighted comparability score across four dimensions replaces spreadsheet comparisons for every Liminal customer

Comparing two vendors in Identity, Fraud, or Cybersecurity is done in a spreadsheet today. The inputs are vendor marketing sites, analyst PDFs of varying age, and whatever the team already believed. Every vendor claims every capability, so a capability checklist built from public material converges on “everyone does everything”, which tells a buyer nothing and tells a strategy team less.

Company Compare replaces that process. Open any company in Command and see how any other company compares against it, scored across four dimensions: functional overlap, use case coverage, geography, and company size. The score is a weighted composite built on Liminal’s proprietary expert comparison model. Instead of a generic similarity metric, the model uses the lens of how an analyst who knows these markets actually judges comparability.

Two details are worth understanding before you run your first comparison.

  1. Use case coverage is deliberately asymmetric: the question “is B an alternative to A?” is not the same as “is A an alternative to B?”. A platform covering forty use cases is a substitute for a specialist covering three, but not the reverse. Symmetric overlap scoring gets this backward, while Company Compare does not.
  2. Incomplete data doesn’t inflate a score: When data is missing for a dimension, the weights renormalize with a cap, keeping scores grounded in what is actually known.

In Company Compare, two views serve two distinct workflows. The Competitors view answers which companies are a genuine alternative to this vendor by pointing to close references in function, use case coverage, and market footprint. The Partners view answers which organizations complement it: a different question, served by different weighting, and a workflow that previously had no dedicated tooling. Heads of Partnerships and Alliances can now identify complements without manually inverting a competitive list.

Comparison runs against the full platform database. The results are computed server-side, so load times are fast and consistent across sessions.

What’s new with Company Compare?

🟢 Scored company comparisons. A weighted composite across functional overlap, use case coverage, geography, and company size. All grounded in a comparison model built by experts through the analyst lens.

🟢 Two views, two jobs. The Competitors view identifies genuine alternatives. The Partners view identifies complements. The same scored model serves both, tuned to the question being asked.

🟢 Full Ontology coverage. Comparison runs against the complete company database, not a pre-loaded shortlist.
