Ryan Cox is a software executive who enjoys helping small companies chase big ideas. He is a proud generalist who has held leadership roles in sales, product, strategy, and business development. Past companies include Oracle, Ariba (SAP), Gracenote (Sony), CrowdFlower (Appen), and DocuSign. With the exception of Oracle, Ryan joined the aforementioned companies when they were 50-150 employees in size.
Ryan’s exposure to identity has been unconventional. Gracenote’s entertainment service was rooted in uniqueness determination and data attribution. CrowdFlower’s human-in-the-loop micro-tasking service delivered quality results by establishing trust and consensus from purposefully anonymized and annotated online workers. DocuSign eSignature’s essence was binding intent with identity, and their global expansion was accelerated by their industry-best identity partner network. Creating this partner ecosystem exposed Ryan to a myriad of digital identity modalities (PKI, eID, BankID, document IDV, mobile signals, government ID schemas, biometrics, etc.). He is a firm believer that trusted identity is a bedrock component of our increasingly digital futures.
Outside of software, Ryan enjoys investing in community-centric businesses that align with personal interests. These businesses include The Independent music venue in San Francisco, CA, Tiny Telephone recording studio in Oakland, CA, the Oakland Roots USL soccer team in Oakland, CA, and Let There Be Rock School in Frederick, MD.
Ryan has a B.S. in Mathematics from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in Audio Engineering from Ex’pression College for Digital Arts.
